A house is the biggest investment that you will make. It is therefore important that you carefully assess the type of flooring currently in the house you plan to buy.
If you have active children and pets you need a home with low maintenance flooring. Frequently maintaining or replacing a floor can be expensive and you don’t need the additional expense just after you buy a home! Flooring that is easy to clean, durable, fairly noise proof and not very hard in case of child and pet accidents are ideal for a young active family.
You may want to consider getting a professional evaluation to if you’re not sure of the quality of the flooring. Often an expert can see things that you might not know to look for. Hardwood floors are usually the costliest. Laminates are a good alternative that look like wood but are much less expensive than hardwood floors. Ceramic tiles are a good less expensive solution than marble or granite floors.
Check the local building rules about flooring. You must also check if the flooring in the house conforms to environmental rules and regulations. If you are considering converting to tile or stone, make sure the subfloor and foundation can handle the additional weight.
Also consider if the flooring material is appropriate for the weather and lifestlye conditions. For example, deep pile carpet in a warm climate will make the room feel hotter than tile. Homes with loop carpet or some hardwood floors are not the best choice for homes with pets.
When you walk in the door of a home you plan to buy, be sure to take the time to check out the floors.

Wood floors have as many personalities as there are types of trees. If your style is laid-back, have you considered the benefits of casual wood flooring?
Take the time to explore the options in our showroom. To start, let’s consider several elements that lead to a more casual feel in a wood floor.
- Look for lighter tones. These bring to mind a coastal or country feel. Maple and pine work well, as do some of the newer bamboos.
- Find a floor with some variety of tone. This will allow you to use different materials and shades in your furnishings while still linking your décor to your floor.
- Look for personality in your floor. The newer hand-scraped floors fit this profile. Also, floors with stronger grain and even a few small knots add to the relaxed feel. The flooring seems handmade rather than manufactured, adding a bit of a rustic feel to your space.
Wood floors provide such variety that there is one to fit your specific taste and style. Ask one of our salespeople for help in finding just the right one for you. If you want to start browsing in the comfort of your own home, check out our online hardwood catalog, here.
